I've recently  opened a co-op bank current account to get access to their regular saver. But can't see myself using it for eveday use. Will the account closer if l don't have money going through it regularly?
Except once a month to fund the regular saver.
Also l have debit card what happens if l don't use it at all?

They won't close the account if there is some movement on it.  They will likely not renew the card when the time comes if it i not being used.  For my accounts that are not really used I just transfer some money when I need to get some cash from the machine, keeps the account and card in use.

There's no problem at all with a scarcely used account. Indeed no use at all doesn't matter really either.

If you use it once a month that is regular use anyway!

No problem in not using the debit card either - there's no obligation to use that at all.

Money cycling through the account once a month will be fine. I suggest leaving £1 in there too.

They will write to you after about a year of non-use of the debit card warning you it will be withdrawn if not used. If you need cash or have a small purchase to make just pop some funds into the Co-op account and use the card for that. You don't have to wait for the letter!
  • I don't even cycle my savings through the current account, I pay it directly into the saver

Yes, I fund the co-op saver direct from my Nationwide current account

After a long period of time, maybe a year or so, of zero activity they may write to you but you could then make one transaction and "reset the timer". They won't just close it without warning

The same thought came to me recently. Like many others DW and I both have Santander Edge accounts which are both inactive apart from a quid paid in on opening. They are only there for access to the 7% Edge Saver, which I guess is the same for a lot of people...
