Haggling with BT

My 24month contract with BT for Fibre 100 expires in Jan 25.

I rang today to get a better price than the £49.35 I currently pay.

In particular I pointed them to the renewal reminder they sent me in November which states "We  promise you'll never pay more than a new customer when you renew your contract. No exceptions."

The first person I spoke to eventually offered me the same contact at £41.99.... 
I gave up trying to explain what the promise BT had made in the letter meant.... 
Wished her Goodbye and hung up.

Rang back and spoke to a different person and £29.99 (the advertised rate for new customers) was offered immediately with no haggling needed.

Even better, the new contact starts tomorrow! 

It seems that you can renew your 24 month contact with no penalty if you are in the last 3 months!

Looking back through my BT bills, the price shot up when "Line Advance Rental" was abolished in 2023.

Some inspiration for others:

Just secured a deal on the phone for Full Fibre 900 at £32 per month.

My full fibre 150 contract (£42 pm) was due to expire in Jan and phoned up firstly to be quoted £39.99 as the best deal. Then I went through the process of inputting my details into a Vodafone deal, up until the point where they check your details with your current provider.

I then received emails from BT saying the usual sorry to see you’re thinking of leaving and decided to try phoning up again which worked a treat! 

So definitely worth speaking to multiple people before you call it quits!
