I'd absolutely place a solid vote here for knowing when a sick day is needed and not being afraid to take it. I absolutely cannot bear the culture we tend to have these days that we must push through regardless, and continue to work even when we are really not well enough to do so for whatever reason, but it's incredibly difficult to go against that culture without feeling as though we're doing the wrong thig. Let's be honest, particularly where jobs are face to face, spreading it around our colleagues isn't exactly the kindest thing to do, is it! Hopefully the day off yesterday helped and you (and OH!) are now on the mend RT - colds are truly miserable, I think cherry may be right that the apparent break from colds over covid has made us feel them more now - although I also wonder if we are just seeing some far stronger strains around at the moment, too.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thank-you all for sympathizing while we were under-the-weather! We've only just managed to feel well enough to venture out & I was adamant that it involved a run (not literally) to pick up some chocolate pistachios!
(@redofromstart - you are getting full blame for this one 🤣🤣🤣)
@Cherryfudge - I hope you too have shaken the cold and regained your energy! This version of the cold hit us both quit hard and we were both happy to take to bed for the duration - nothing like a comfy duvet.
@EssexHebridean - yesterday I ended up having to do an on-line course and a meeting smack in the middle of the day. The course is not being offered again for months, and is critical for my quarterly performance review so had to be done! The meeting was sooooooo boring, it's one that is held once a year and I end up saying the same thing every year, so I was glad that it ended in half the time! Then it was back to bed for the day. Today though was bliss - it involved pajamas and a duvet for most of it and ended happily with the aforementioned decadent treats!

...and on that note I'm back to commuting to the office tomorrow to participate in a training session with a group of 25. I've got tissues and throat lozenges at the ready and will be appropriately dosed with cold & flu meds. I'm not sneezing or coughing so don't think a mask will be necessary, but will take one anyway incase someone objects!

It took OH and I almost 2 weeks to recover from the latest cold. Seemed to linger for ages. Glad your feeling better

@Cheery_Daff - I went into the office for two days this week, simply because there were non-hybrid meetings that I needed to show my face at! Gotta admit that being in the office while still ill was quite hellish!
@ladybird1106 - It's been a rough one most definitely!!! - It's hasn't lingered particularly, the congestion has vanished, but wow am I ever wiped out! Very tired so a weekend of resting planned.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Hope you feel rested after a coorie in this weekend.4

@teapot2 - Everyday is a school day on the forum! 😉 Had to g00gle 'coorie' to discover that it is a lovely Scottish term for 'hygge'
The weekend was definitely one that was warm and dry and inside rather than out and about - not sure if it was 100% restful as there was so much chore catch-up from the week & of course the usual laundry and houseclean! We've eaten home-cooked nutritious food which is a start and also have a plan for the upcoming week. I always feel that this helps with taking away decision fatigue during the busy workdays.
I've still a few of the larger frogs to tackle which were just too unpalatable to eat while still not feeling 100%. These include getting together supporting evidence for my claims to R0yal Mall, P0st 0ffice & credit card company as well as a complaint to trading standards in regard to the poor customer service from the company I ordered from in the first place! I've still to open our new Jaws and mini-Jaws and as OH has pointed out our Gt3ch is well and truly knackered and the house still needs a good clean! It is however almost 11pm & I have an early morning & commute to the city so I'm calling it a day.

The cold sounds horrendous. Mine didn't last, perhaps as I'd just had a couple of jabs so my immune system was on the alert, but I was more tired than I should have been afterwards. Do treat yourself to a bit more rest to compensate for all the energy it's taken from you.
I love that word 'coorie', I'd not heard it before.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Cherryfudge - It was indeed a bad one but as I'd just had my Covid shot & having been gifted recently with a depressed immune system, it meant that I was not strong enough to fight off both! The OH unfortunately was in the same boat in catching the cold, and as we are both bad patients, being sick at the same time was not a good experience!
It's been a difficult week at work for me as well so have just let all things financial tick along nicely on their own! I have missed an insurance renewal date unfortunately but am not going to worry overly as I'm within the cooling off period and will cancel it and renew at a lower rate as they sent me their Black Friday deal the day after the payment was taken! What cheek! I'm once again disgusted with insurance provider practices of not giving their long-term clients their best rates straight off the bat.
We've also had an expensive week, shelling out for two super-duper eye tests, and an ear/hearing session as well as 50% payment on a pair of replacement glasses! The health expenses which were well overdue have been budgeted for but ouch did it hurt to see my credit card balance! (used purely for the points of course) My eyes have changed very little in the past few years, but there is a serious concern that has been raised which will mean a call to the health insurance people for a private referral. I'm hoping to go to a consultant in the city as I've been mighty unimpressed with consultants in my neck of the woods! The past two years of health worries have made me feel that health care around me is second rate. OH on the other hand has had a massive change in his prescription, resulting in a dent in the coffers of 750 pounds - YIKES! - and on a side note, the man can also hear again, so muttering under my breath at him needs to be curbed to maintain marital bliss! 😍
Checked our energy account earlier this evening, after reading about all the high level planning over on EH's & GB's Cheery's threads. That aspect of our lives is much less complicated than all the lovely ladies with a fancier set up, but I was mighty pleased that the Utility Gawds deemed it time to say I could have a refund! I think two months in excess is ludicrous and would rather have the money in my account than in theirs! They said I could have back just under 50 pounds of MY money in 10 days time, but raised my direct debit by 3 pounds a month! They still have a month and a half of money and I'd honestly be happier if they just took what I owed them every month and let me worry about budgeting evenly over the year - but such is life and warmth and hot water are both crucial in our household - what will be will be. (Honestly though, that missing cold weather payment from OH's pension payments is really going to hurt this year!)
Amazingly after all those ouchy expenditures this week, we are only 350 away from being mortgage neutral with an inflow of OH's pension and my medical insurance payment for the month having being paid in. We are truly blessed to be able to cover all our expenses with cautious/careful budgeting!
Progress is...
...being comfortable knowing that bills can be paid without stressing and that we can play the game of mortgage neutrality to keep ourselves amused along the way to being mortgage free.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!!
