If we want to "sell" our wardrobe (for example) and the buyers say they don't want to buy it, can we leave it any way?

Or will we have to remove it?

No. They can charge you to store and then dispose of any such items. It's better to be in control of the costs, and the method of disposal.

If you leave it then they could in principle charge you to remove it however these things are always a bit of a game and other than a house full of junk I've never actually heard of anyone attempting a recovery of disposal costs. In our case we said no to everything, they left a few of the things (eg light fittings) and we didnt consider charging for them and 5 years later they are all still in place (though not the washer/drier that died or the cooker which we sold)

Even with my childhood family home the buyer didnt want anything, though was rude about it, and in revenge items were left but intentionally damaged/sabotaged and still never heard anything.

Are they interested in it?  If so they might just not want to pay that much. If not, they might be happy to have it for free as a stop gap so just ask

Seller - Would you like to buy this wardrobe for £x?

Buyer - Yes or Yes but for £y.

or

Seller - Would you like to buy this wardrobe for £x?

Buyer - No.

Seller - Ok, if we were to leave it would you still want it?

Buyer - Yes or No please make sure it is remove upon completion.

We declined the offer to buy the new garden furniture at our last house. The sellers wanted over £1000 for a huge table, chairs and matching BBQ. But when we moved in they were still there. Our solicitor advised that since we had refused the offer to buy them they definitely weren't ours. So we couldn't sell them. But if the last owner wanted them back we could demand rent for having stored them on our patio.

So do you enjoy a beer and a burger on the huge table and chairs via the matching BBQ in the summer?

We left them there when we sold the house

We left them there when we sold the house 

Unused since the purchase?  Did you make it clear to the buyers that they weren't yours but the prior vendors?

Your local charity furniture shop will be able to come and take it away if you don't want to take it with you. You don't need to worry about the buyer complaining and a charity benefits.
