Flight upgrades failure by agent

I have requested by email that an online travel agent upgraded my flights. I was given a price to which i said yes please book them. i heard nothing for over 24 hours despite emailing and would only receive auto response that they are awaiting confirmation from ticketing dept . Today I rang and was told that the agent assigned to me had her day off yesterday and guess what - she didnt book them and costs have increased by £1700 ! Am currently awaiting a manager call back . Surely the agent should have passed my file onto a colleague for a planned day off ? Do I have any rights on this ?

In the future it would make sense to book direct to avoid these kind of issues.1
