Is a TV licence needed?

yep, that's about the size of it ... I was being super cautious, by de-tuning & removing & taping up the aerial away from the telly (see my previous posts)
I'm constantly amazed every time one of these threads start & people like myself who have actual experience of legally being without a license post that it's ok to watch DVDs & play games, & you get a whole lot of people coming along & telling you that you're wrong
Don't forget they have to PROVE that you are watching TV without a licence. If you don't admit to that - it is almost impossible for them to do that. You CAN have a tuned in set, you CAN have a working aerial, you can have a "warm" TV set - none of that proves that were were committing an offence. The only way they can get into your house anyway is with a warrant - to get that they have to convince a magistrate first.
To be totally honest I would say that it IS impossible to convict someone without them first making a confession !0 -

Like yourself, I want to be super cautious and de-tune my tv, should we decide not to recieve a signal anymore.
May I ask, was it as simple as just messing around with the channel settings to be sure that it didn't recieve a signal?
Thanks
it's while ago now, but I think I went into manual set-up & made sure I wasn't getting any channels ... kinda hard to describe, if you try it I'm sure you'll see what I mean
absolutely no need to have bits removed from your telly
but if you have the aerial unplugged, rolled up & taped far away from the set, that's more than enough
trouble is, all the TVLA rules were made before DVDs & video-gaming came along & now they're struggling to adjust to a changing world & to keep thei money coming in are giving out deliberately confusing dis-information   :mad:0
