I assume the request to prove being over £16k was not about stopping the claim but more to do with verifying the recent lump sum inheritance and not a slow creep up to the threshold in which case there may have been overpayment of UC1

The alternative is to just ask for the claim to be closed without reporting the change. They also like to record the amount of capital held on that date in case someone with a large inheritance should subsequently reclaim a few months down the line, at which point it would be flagged by the system (a feature introduced after some Tax Credit customers migrated with large amounts of capital that were disregarded for 12 months and then reported low capital values 12 months later once the disregard ended).I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Benefits & tax credits, Heat pumps and Green & Ethical MoneySaving forums.
