Sky Cancellation Period

Hi,
I'm looking to push Sky to offer me a much better deal (heavily reduced costs, full fibre etc) by cancelling and hoping I get a retention offer before it expires.
I'm aware there is a risk they won't offer what I need, but my neighbour did similar and got a much better deal (£30 less a month than they offered me on the basic retentions). I've been a customer for 15 years with a reasonable package just now.
I'm planning to switch to BT if they don't offer a suitable deal so willing to ditch them entirely, but wondered what others experience of this strategy was?

Try reading the Sky forum, the days of big discounts and tempting retention deals being offered in notice periods seem to be a thing of the past.
New customers seem to be getting the best deals.

Are you talking about BB or TV/BB?
If BB we have limited choices being rural and part-fibre. However I have just re-contracted with Sky at £24/month after going on to the Vodaphone website and started an order to switch providers to them. As part of the sign-up the Vodaphone system contacted the Sky BB system to get info from them. As I was still filling in details on the Vodaphone site an offer from Sky dropped into my email, down from £43/month to £24/month. I stopped the process with Vodaphone (just closed the page) and rang Sky.
PS you don't cancel BB unlike with the TV package, you go to the other provider and start a switch.0 -
The point is to get to retentions, as they have far greater discount discretion than any of the first tier call centre drones. To do, that, you have to say 'I want to cancel, put me through to disconnections please' (which, of course, is retentions).
And the best deals tend to be in the last few days of the month, when they are likely to need to be hitting their retention targets. Other than that, it's pot luck and depends who you speak to.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Unless things have changed ( I haven’t been a Sky TV customer for quite a few years ) cancellation takes a huge amount of patience and perseverance, you can’t cancel ( or couldn’t ) cancel Sky TV online , and calling Sky to cancel was an enormous PIA , the first representative will try and dissuade you from leaving, after sticking to your guns , they put you through to retentions who have a second go to try and dissuade you , and then , if they haven’t brow beaten you , they put you through to cancellations, who also try to make you stay , so three transfers around the same organisation, each not acting on your instructions to cancel immediately , their entire effort is to get you to remain, obviously if your aim is not to leave but just get a better deal this may be acceptable ( providing they do offer you an acceptable deal ) but if you want to cancel , be prepared to have a battle on your hands .0
