Aer Lingus refusing to accept handwritten taxi receipt after flight cancellation

Aer Lingus cancelled my flight JFK to MAN and I accepted a NEW to MAN flight same day. Newark is a !!!!!! of an airport to get to via public transport compared to JFK. I took a $110 taxi instead. I claimed cost back but airline won't accept it because it's a handwritten receipt. What driver carries a bloody printer in their cab around with them? How do I challenge this?

If being handwritten is their only objection (as opposed to the principle of funding a taxi) then if you can't get them to see sense, you could take it to the Irish aviation regulator:

Given that the flight was to the UK, you might also find that the CAA would be able and willing to get involved, or ultimately there's small claims....0 -
Actually, over the past 10-years I can only think of US taxi rides where receipts are printed. The printer normally an attachment to the card reader terminal.oneneedstocleartheattic said:Aer Lingus cancelled my flight JFK to MAN and I accepted a NEW to MAN flight same day. Could you resubmit your hand written receipt with other evidence of the journey costing that amount. Have a look at MapQuest. https://www.mapquest.com/0 -
Every taxi I've taken in the US in recent years, most London black cabs too for that matter... London black cabs generally use cab vision for payments (or at least they'll have one setup but may slyly ask you to use their Zettle instead) which comes with a printer as standard. If they bother keeping printer roll etc for it is another matter.oneneedstocleartheattic said:Aer Lingus cancelled my flight JFK to MAN and I accepted a NEW to MAN flight same day. did you pay cash or card? If card then you can also supply the supporting evidence of the bank statement. I can certainly see their concerns, last black cab I took said his printer was out of battery so gave me a had written receipt which he ignored the date, time, to and from field and just wrote 18 in the amount field... he also gave me 5 blank ones "in case I need them". Not what you'd consider a secure or robust system0
