Although this might seem trivial I have found this problem lots of times but now it angers me.
Last week Asda Everyday Teabags 1.20 for 80. This week 1.85 for 80 !!! Why?
Cost of living supposed to be going down.

I switched from Tetley teabags when ALL retailers hiked the price gradually from 2.49 to a whopping 4.99. All of them (no price competition here) to the Asda own brand and now they too have been clobbered by over 50%.
How long are we going to hear Covid and a war at fault? I have finally got a email address and wrote to them asking why? I feel We are being taken for mugs. This is just one example but it’s happening all the time. There seems to be an epidemic of corporate greed here. Not happy.

Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid2 -
Inflation is slowing down. This means that the pace of price rises is slowing down but ultimately prices are still going up.7

Cost of living includes many products. The main reason it went down was fuel & air fares.

Sainsburys own brand tea bags went up.
Although quite what this has to do with site feedback?Life in the slow lane0 -
Perhaps this thread would be better moved to the food shopping board?🤔1

The cost of tea would be influenced by how good (or not) the harvest is, labour and shipping costs, amongst other things. A poor harvest would lead (simplistically) to relative scarcity, causing prices to rise.
Asda is also a business (not a charity) and as such wants to make a profit, if people will pay £1.85 for 80 teabags then that's what they'll sell them at. That price also sounds very (too) cheap, for £1.85 you're almost certainly getting the floor sweepings after all other brands / ranges of tea have been made / packaged.
Elsewhere, the UK has had one of its worst grain harvests this year, and it's difficult to get grain out of Ukraine (a big grain producer) at the moment - so I'd expect the cost of bread and similar products to start rising, even if inflation is going down.5 -

As for your claim of "corporate greed", margins on food products are still low and the market is highly competitive. If you think a profit margin of 3% is being greedy I cannot imagine what you think they should be making instead.4 -
I buy the same teabags in 240 size and that is still £3.20 been that price for sometime now. The Asda tea bags in the same coloured box 80s shows it as extra strong £2.00. That is online the store my shop is picked from does not always show the full range so maybe yours are in a larger store1

Our M&S Food withdraws the loose leaf tea again to make room for Christmas stuff. It riles me every time, but I have stocked up. They have stopped the basic range loose leaf, as have Waitrose.
By the way, the scum and foul taste are from the bag not from the tea.
A pot of tea is more economical, you can top up the pot and get a good second cup.3 -
well Matt Matt Matt uk. In that case it’s strange how Tesco, for one, had reported making the highest profits they’ve made. I will try and get you the exact amount for your refrence.1
