To answer another question, I don't think anything with mechanical parts likes to be turned off for an extended period. Even if it were a gas boiler, I think the motorised valves and the pump would prefer some occasional exercise.Reed1 -
I turn my gas ch combi boiler off for nine months a year (both gas and electric supply turned off) and always smile when it fires up straight off despite the doomsayers saying it will kill the pump, touch wood, etc. Good to hear you can actually turn off the hot water element of heat pumps as many people either don't use hot water or prefer electric showers, a pity that you won't get a grant unless existing hot water systems are removed (I think).0

There's no reason to prefer an electric shower. With a heat pump you will get a pressurised DHW cylinder that will give you all the water flow you need, more than many electric showers can give. And the electric shower will cost you two to three times as much to run as using the hot water from your cylinder. It's a good thing that you have to get a new hot water system to get the heat pump grant because it stops people from shooting themselves in the foot or greatly inconveniencing future owners of the property.Reed3

octopus are coming this week to do the survey for the cosy 6 installation I will report back what they say.
I expect them to confirm their quote to swap 10 radiators, replace existing dhw cylinder in airing cupboard and install the heat pump
Will ask them what the controller allows eg dwh only, rads only or both.0 -
By all means ask, but the answer will be "both" the onlys as well as both together.Reed0
