I had actually purchased a sweater for someone as a birthday present but they didnt like it. I took it back to store and they refused a refund and gave me a credit note which I used to buy some other stuff. The last time I go in there!
My understanding was that pre-2015 they were obliged to give a refund if you took item back with original packaging and I won a few duels on the way. Maybe I misunderstood the law.
    yes - you misunderstood.

In the case you mention, a change of mind for an in store purchase is not covered by any statutory rights. Most stores will exchange or give store credit, but they don't have to. Some stores will go further and grant a refund, but again - this is not a legal requirement on them.

Furthermore this did not change in 2015 and has been basically the same law since at least 1979 (and probably before that to)
