Child benefit back dated further than 3 months?

My 3rd child was born in 2017 when Child Tax Credits was capped at 2 children, I wrongly presumed this to be Child Benefit. It was only this year I realised, HMRC have back dated 3 months and I have to appeal for further, has anyone had any success going back more than 3 months or am I wasting my time?

Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.1

You are wasting your time. The maximum time is 3 months.1

Unless you can provide written evidence that you were wrongly advised by a Government department you are not going to get anywhere. You acknowledge that you simply misunderstood what the rules applied to so you were not wrongly advised.1
