Trading 212

Hi, has anyone any experience of T212? ISA rate at 5.1% looks good.

I have, easy to set up but a bit of a pain to use as have to install an app to provide separate 2 factor authentication.

It'll probably be worth scrolling through a few of the many existing T212 ISA threads on here, as it's been discussed extensively - here's one, for example:

I opened one - not overly difficult - my main complaint is that it's not instant access - payments to your nominated account take at least a working day in my experience so I left £100 in but use Chip Instant Access ISA at 4.84% as that is truly instant and I can deposit and withdraw easily and quickly.

What app did you have to install to do this?

I don't recall having to do this for T212. Also, isn't 2FA pretty standard these days? I don't see how that makes it a pain to use. As far as apps go, I would actually say it's very intuitive.

I think he's referring to using an authenticator app, did you not have to set this up?

You only need to use it once for each device, so I don't see it as a hassle personally. And I already use Google authenticator for other logins, so it's already on my phone.
  • I tried to transfer funds into a cash ISA but it has proved impossible, even after installing the required authentication software.  They are impossible to reach by phone to talk to a human, referring me to a do not reply email.  I am extremely nervous about putting money into an account when I can’t get help if I need it.

No. In settings there is an option. You can either use trusted device or auth app. You don't have to use an auth app.
You can use trusted device and FaceID for example. Unless mandatory use of an auth app is new but I didn't have to use one.

Lots of banks are these days though. I'm with Monzo for other banking and you can't call them either.
In fairness, T212 have been super responsive to me on live chat and it's always with an actual human and not a bot.

Which bit is proving tricky? Are you getting a warning from the bank when you try to transfer? Ignore it - as long as you use the correct details it will go across. Send £1 first and then you can check if it arrives.

Or is it something else stopping you?

I operate via the web on both laptop and mobile - mainly use the mobile when transferring in because open banking connects to my banking app rather than having to put in.

Not sure why there's an objection to 2FA, you are not using their app and tied to it but any 2FA app. You can also use more than one, so set up one on your mobile and one on another device if you like. I've found transfers out come next working day
