Repair issue with dehumidifier

Looking for advice or opinions here:

I have a Meaco dehumidifier bought so far as I remember in February 2021. It has just developed a fault. I looked into sending it to Meaco for repair: I am aware that it is out of warranty and am happy to pay any reasonable repair charge (so far as I am concerned, this would be up to about 75% of the original cost as I hate planned obsolescence). The problem is that I no longer have proof of purchase or indeed any idea which retailer I bought it from and without proof of purchase, Meaco refuse to repair it.

Am I alone in thinking that this is an odd policy? I've gone through my old emails, but they don't go back that far. I can't download bank statements that old (unless, presumably I go into the bank in person and ask them to do it, I certainly can't do it online) so I can't work out from which online retailer I bought it. I have an idea which retailer it would have been but it looks as though I bought as a guest.

Can anyone shed any light on why Meaco have this policy?

You are not alone in thinking that is an odd policy - I think the same. No idea why they might say that - but will be looking with interest to see if anyone else can suggest a reason!

Are you sure that they realise you're not claiming under the warranty?  Refusing to accept a paid repair without proof of purchase would be strange.  Refusing to consider a warranty repair without proof of purchase would be less so.

Just a thought from another thread - could this be anything to do with them requiring products to be registered with them on purchase or they will not deal with repairs?

I can understand a warranty repair but refusing to carry out a service, which they presumably profit from, without original proof of purchase is just odd.

I wonder if whoever OP is dealing with is confusing what's required for a paid repair with what's required for a warranty repair?
