New Car ordered but delivery is delayed (HELP)

  • Hi All,

I ordered a new car on PCP back in March knowing that my current PCP ends in November. When speaking to the dealership I made it very clear (I have email correspondence to prove if this is needed in the future) that I need my new car within 7 days either side of my current car ending otherwise I will be without a car.

We worked together to make sure I chose a car that will be ready come November.

I have just been informed today that the car will not be here when predicted and there is no firm date of when It will be ready.

I am unable to continue my current car as I don't have the ££££ to buy the end of lease valuation and Stellantis (The finance company) are unwilling to extend the PCP unless its in 12 month blocks.

My question is.. can I cancel the order of the new car with no cost to myself and get my deposit back? I am cancelling because they haven't upheld their side of the agreement and I could use the deposit (£5000) to buy a Used car instead.

as it stands now I will be without a car come second week in November and any money I have to get a car in the interim is tied up in waiting for the new purchase.

Sorry if this is a ramble, I'm a bit miffed and concerned

    Thank you
Have you asked the Dealer whether they have a loan car they can make available for you?
Hi, thank you for the reply.

I asked the dealer this morning and the exact response was

'I’m afraid the dealership cannot arrange for a loan vehicle as this issue has affected thousands of orders so it’s not something they’re able to arrange.

I’ve asked your Sales Advisor to see if there’s any built vehicles of a same or similar spec that are in the pipeline and might come through in November.

Can you afford to pay the GFV on your current deal?
Then when your new car turns up, sell the old and hopefully get the value of the GFV back.

Maybe the dealer can help with the last part, they might agree to buy it and cover the cost of the GFV.
Hi thank you for the reply,

This is why its such a pain, I would be able to purchase the current car, however the £5000 that would go towards that is held in a deposit for the vehicle that is now not due till gone 14th January. Thats why I really need to cancel to free up the deposit they are holding on the vehicle.
  • If you cancel what is your plan for another car, given you can not afford the balloon payment?

As others talk to the dealer, between you you should be able to work out something that works for both of you.
Hi, thank you for the reply.

The order for the car has a deposit of £5000 that is currently with the dealership finance. If I could cancel then that would free up the £5000. But if I lose the deposit if I cancel I am well and truly buggered.. well more so then I am without a car..

In my experience, a deposit for a new car has never been more than £500... I certainly wouldn't be bankrolling a dealership (which could easily go bust next week) to the tune of £5,000.

Was it a particularly odd spec or impossible-to-sell custom colour?

OP start researching other manufacturers, models and availability now so you can formulate a plan B when/if you have to cancel.

I also wonder if they are over their quota for ICE cars for 2024 (before being fined) and want to shift delivery to the new year.

The targets for manufacturers increase each year, requiring 80% of new cars and 70% of new vans sold in Great Britain to be zero emission by 2030, increasing to 100% by 2035. Fines of £15,000 will apply to each car sold outside of the target.
