Amazon unknown transaction

Not sure if this is the correct place to put this query but there did seem to be a lot of Amazon stuff here...

A pending transaction of £1.08 has appeared on my account for 'prime membership'.  The same amount has appeared on my amex card  for the same amount. I haven't used the account in quite a while.

What's odd is that I rang Amazon and they cannot see any recent transactions on my account.

Amex won't  investigate anything until the transaction is no longer pending. Amazon won't do anything at all as, as far as they are concerned, it doesn't exist. Of course it is only £1.08 and it is still pending but I am just concerned that it may be the fore runner of something and I don't understand why Amazon cannot see it if I can!

Any ideas on ways forward with this?

I think you're just going to have to wait for it to (hopefully) drop off, and keep a keen eye on your account for a while.

Any other family members have your card on their account? As a subscription on a expired card will default down the cards on the account, till they find a live card.

I had a similar issue a few years ago, £8.?? Appeared on my credit card 3 months in a row but I hadn’t noticed.

It was a prime subscription paid in $ so was different each month in £

I did get it back after speaking to the bank and Amazon

I discovered Amazon.uk cannot see items bought on Amazon.com

I also discovered my card had been cloned which the bank blocked

the other odd thing is the amount. £1.08 does not match with a prime subscription - and also we haven't got prime anyway.

The wife has use of the amex card but hasn't used her account. No other family members have access. checked everything - it's a mystery. The real mystery is that Amazon cannot see the transaction that is clearly on my account.

sounds like a scammers test payment.  a small amount that is unlikely to be noticed or won't be contested as too trivial and then they'll up the game.    Assuming this is just on Amex keep a record of when and who you talked to and what they said.  Ensure they know you think it is likely fraudulent.  Then if something more happens they can't blame you for not doing something to prevent it.

Thats exactly what the bank told me.

Scammers were taking small amounts so you don’t notice

I tend to agree - but how do they get a 1.08 Prime membership payment charge - that 'purchase' doesn't exist. And why can Amazon not see it?

The payment didn’t go to Amazon, it went to the scammer. They’re using Prime Membership to make you think it’s Amazon

Amazon UK can only see UK charges.
This tallies into a small amount that Amazon US charges. So you would need to contact them on the payment.
