Migration from TC to UC and self employment

We've received a migration notice and need to change to UC from TC. Husband is self employed.
Is it best to start the claim on the 1st please so our assessment period would be from the 1st to the 30th? I think that would work best in terms of calculating his earnings from self employment?
Also our next tax credits payment is due on the 1st Nov.
Any pitfalls to watch out for please? Or advice. Situation is as follows. I'm on PIP and cont based ESA, in support group. Not working. Have two teenage children, one 15 doing GCSEs, other 19 a stay at home student. Husband self employed, claiming carers credit for me but not entitled to carers allowance at present due to earnings.
We currently are eligible for a severe disability premium on tax credits. We have no housing costs.
On the benefits calculators online it says we may get quite a bit more than tax credits.

I have already requested online a letter certifying that I am on the cont based ESA in case they ask about that.0

You might want to get the Tax Credits payment and then make the claim for UC due to the delay in your first payment of UC (it takes 5 weeks). https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/how-youre-paid might help you decide timing. UC is paid monthly but TC was paid 4 weekly.Help to Claim (run by Citizens Advice) can be helpful as you'd want to make sure you are claiming everything you are entitled to first before making your UC claim. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/contact-us/help-to-claim/1
