Octopus Legacy Wills and Power of Attorney

Please move if in wrong place
Im with Octopus Energy and they have offered me a free Will and to prepare both the financial and health power of Attorney for £60 in total.
i don’t have a basic Will, so I’ll be taking them up on that, but how difficult is it to prepare the Power of Attorney from the .Gov uk website? Should I pay them the £60 or do it myself?
Thanks in advance

Preparing a PoA from the government website is straight forward.1

I can't see any benefit in this at all, as it appears that Octopus aren't being the certificate provider nor the witnesses. They just want £60 to read the instructions for you. I also wouldn't use an energy company to draft a will!!

OP's post misleading. Octopus Legacy ( mentioned in the title) has nothing at all to do Octopus Energy. Would be most disturbing if any energy company thought it appropriate to get into the Wills, Probate and POA business. Bad enough having to put up with the host of non legally qualified Will writing firms currently doing the rounds.1 -
Agree, I'd be gobsmacked if they were using an actual solicitor to prepare the will for you, far more likely to be a will-writer of some description.bunnygo said:I can't see any benefit in this at all, as it appears that Octopus aren't being the certificate provider nor the witnesses. It's Free Wills Month atm, they're likely to do another in March, do it that way, using a proper solicitor. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/free-cheap-wills/Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
They use the same colour way on their website as Octopus Energy the dark blue and pink ! Obviously to mislead 🤬poseidon1 said:

Free wills month, don’t you have to be over 55 years old for ? I’m a couple of years off thatSavvy_Sue said:

I think they are/were both part of the same Octopus initiative - so there is a link although it is not Octopus Energy offering the services you are talking about.applepad said:

Any more disturbing than, say, M&S selling insurance? Obviously it's just attaching a brand to a "white label" product from a more relevant specialist, it doesn't mean somebody is taking time out from selling prawn sandwiches to underwrite your policy.poseidon1 said:

Ah, you're right, I believe. However, some charities will, I think, offer a 'free' will in the hope / expectation that you'll give them something now or in the will, and this offer is to anyone and everyone. May be worth checking with a few favourite charities?applepad said:

Also just checking, while I wouldn't want to dissuade you from writing a will or PofA, what happens if you die without a will? Do the laws of intestacy serve your purpose? In which case, hang on a couple of years ... https://www.gov.uk/inherits-someone-dies-without-willSignature removed for peace of mind1 -
Yes I have been married once and am still married , for 26 years, we own our house and have 2 adult children, so the intestacy laws would be fine.Savvy_Sue said:
