Court summons / house visit

I'd be extremely annoyed if that were the case (especially on behalf of his old house mate). Police knocking your door at 3am is likely to strike fear into anyone's heart that something terrible has happened - only to find they're delivering paperwork about a parking ticket!jodiannee said:
There’s literally nothing else it could be. He’s a law abiding citizen hahaGrizebeck said:They do yes . But why assuming it's relevant to parking
If I was him (the housemate) I'd be having words at my local nick

jodiannee said:Hello everyone.Around 3am this morning my boyfriend had a message from his old housemate saying the police were at the address trying to give him a court summons. He then had a missed call around that time at 3am.My boyfriend seems to think it’s from a parking ticket he received about 6 months ago but I said it’s very unlikely. The ticket was a private company and he’s had letters from debt recovery plus. Also, they’ve not sent any letters to that address. They’ve been sending them to his parents house.Anyone had anything similar? Very bizarre situation.Alternatively does someone know why the police would try and deliver a court summons at 3am and it doesn’t explain why they didn’t come to our current address (we’ve been living here 4 months and all updated on DVLA etc)That's a ridiculous assumption the police won't be involved in a private parking scam!If they are knocking on a door at 3 AM it's for something far more serious where they think they are going to pin someone down before they leave the house.Had a similar thing many years ago when the police were knocking on my door trying to find someone I had never heard of, it turned out they were looking for someone in an area in Hants and we lived in Bucks.2

Witness summons maybe? Seems odd to try to deliver it at 3am though.

But what could be so urgent that it requires the police to knock on at 3am.Grizebeck said:It circles back to my other point though doesn’t explain why they didn't come to our current address. Checks would have shown where we live now0 -
Thanks for all the comments!Just things don’t seem to add up with this. If it was the police they would come to our current house and also I don’t see what court summons would be so urgent it needs delivering at 3am. It would have come in the post. The police specifically asked for my boyfriend so can’t be a mistake. We’ll call the police today see if we can get some answers.Just wanted to check if anyone had anything similar connected to parking tickets.3

Maybe he has been up to something you dont know about4

When he moved, did he change the details on the V5C? If not he may have more serious offences that he has been convicted off that he is unaware of.5

Yeah I believe so.Keep_pedalling said:When he moved, did he change the details on the V5C? We work within law enforcement ourselves and something like that would have cropped up at work.1 -
So many assumptions here...
We don't know what time the police (?) visited his former housemates, nor at what time they sent him the message. The fact that a message reached you at 3am does not mean that it was sent then. Is it not possible that the housemates put off telling him while they went out for the evening, and the actual visit had been at teatime?
Again, we don't know who conducted the visit. If it was actually about parking then probably they were debt collectors making out that they had some kind of official powers, and the document delivered was effectively a demand for payment with the threat of court action otherwise.
Best thing to do: ask the former housemate for a photo of the Summons or whatever it was, and see if they have any contact details for whoever came to deliver it. If so, do some searches to establish who this was before making contact.

Well that would be a very rare occurrence!Voyager2002 said:So many assumptions here...
