Salmonella investigation

We are due to travel in 6 days with Jet 2 2 adults 1 child to Fuertevetura
It has become apparent that several guests that have been at the hotel have become unwell with sickness and diarrhoea in thevlast week, 3 with confirmed salmonella, 2 of which are in hospital in Fuertevetura, 1 critical.
We have queried with Jet 2 who are denying all knowledge. The people that are ill have all reported to the reps in resort, or their operator and the hotel itself. The lady dealing with her critical family member has been told by Jet 2 there is an official investigation. Jet 2 are still insisting that there are no reports. I am obviously worried about travelling to this hotel but as Jet 2 insist there is no issue they will not change the hotel or advise what pro active measuresare being taken for current/imminent guests. Is anyone able to advise if there is anything else I can try? Many thanks in advance.

Yup it's all you can do really. It's awful when hotels deny illness on resort and try and cover it up. I read a similar story about a Greek Tui resort the other day, they were disputing every trip advisor review but people had been really poorly.

Or eat out (unhelpful with AI)

    Which hotel ?
Has Salmonella been confirmed by a medically qualified source - if so Jet2 can hardly claim ignorance.
There is legal machinery for making a formal complaint using a form called Hoja de Reclamaciones which all hotels, restaurants and bars are obliged to maintain and provide to customers. The local authority will check these and take appropriate action.....if anybody goes that route they should contact the appropriate local government town hall.
If the hotel tries to stall the local police should be involved.
Hopefully it will not come to that of course.

Beware the food, beware the ice and keep your mouth closed when swimming.
Often there are reports of an outbreak at a hotel but it might actually relate to a nearby restaurant that people have visited and not to the hotel itself. Many anecdotes of montezumas revenge assume 'salmonella', but until it is tested and verified as such there are many other reasons for it e.g. norovirus, use of DEET, not used to food etc.

Yes I'm thinking eating out might be the way forward, very annoying when we've paid for AI

But had it been confirmed that it was contracted from the hotel?

Maybe they ate out in the restaurant you choose to eat out in.

If there has been a confirmed incidence of salmonella linked to the hotel, the best time to travel might well be a week later as the hotel will have fully deep cleaned everything to sanitise and all procedures will be adhered to very tightly.

Usual precautions about taking care with regard to drinking water and such like apply as you would for any holiday.

Indeed, this is where things can get problematic - if any of the stricken guests have consumed food/drinks in any other local establishment(s) that undermines the contention that the hotel is automatically at fault.
Likewise, if only a very few guests are ill that also raises doubt.

How do you know there are people at the hotel who are ill if you've not travelled yet? I'm always very wary about these sorts of reports because there are so many causes that may be unrelated to the hotel. Saw someone complaining about illness recently yet had been posting photos petting/holding various animals the previous day.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
