Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks

For the past for the past few years I have been receiving texts from SSEN saying that I can get help and support when I most need it most during power cuts. This years came in the form of a letter asking me to update my details either by email or by phone. Tried phone first but out of  3choices given there was none offering me the information I required.
i then tried emailing and got quite a shock when the reply went on about estimates and quotes for work I might require quoting at one point £10,000.00 for  something. I found this most surprising and confusing because the letter I received clearly states th”All our Priority Services are free of charge”.

Assuming that thousands of other people have received a similar letter, can someone please explain ho ‘free of charge’ can lead to estimates, quotes and even paying in cash? I do understanwd that this could be an age thing on my part.

I get the texts, but I haven't got this letter.

Are you sure it wasn't a scam?

As far as I'm aware SSEN's Priority Services and Priority Services Register are all about support during power cuts so I can't imagine why they'd be talking to you about anything you'd have to pay for..

    https://www.ssen.co.uk/power-cuts-emergencies/priority-services/

They refer to the Register when you report a power cut, looking to see if any special needs are noted. And during severe or extended events they do some proactive checking. For example a friend is on the register due to young children, and they had a couple of Army guys call round to see if they needed help.
