It's usual for rates to be shown on bills exclusive of VAT. When they've all been listed, they're added up and the 5% VAT added as a single line item. Not so with quotes, which by law have to include VAT. Try multiplying your 'latest bill' figures by 1.05.Nrugor said:Crikey, think mine is wrong too ...Elec (Cheap Energy Club)
Unit rate 28.71p per kWh
Elec (Latest Bill)Unit rate 27.34p per kWh

I checked mine and if I multiply the OVO quoted prices by 1.05 I get the MSE values.I can't believe the energy companies are quoting Tariff rates less VAT - its a retail transaction - there wasn't anything on either my account page or the bill to say that this was less VAT, its only when you go to the final calculation that you see the VAT being added. As if they don't confuse things enough with their pricing structures0 -
It is confusing but it's s how they are legally obliged to do it.Cruixer said:SacredStephan said:

I would imagine it would be possible for them to put a note/* beside the Tariff saying not including VAT.0 -
Looking at a recent EDF bill it says twice on the same page:Cruixer said:I would imagine it would be possible for them to put a note/* beside the Tariff saying not including VAT.
"Prices do not include VAT unless otherwise noted"0 -
Ah, that would certainly explain it - my bad.SacredStephan said:

It does quite clearly state on my bill that prices don't include VAT. Might be useful if MSE could pop a short statement on the club to this effect.0 -

No such thing on my OVO bill, either on the plan page in the online account or on the bill. The only time VAT is mentioned is in the final line when its added to the total bill.0 -
I just checked my own OVO account. I don't see much scope for doubt ...Cruixer said:

Well bully for you, but that's not the way it looks on my account. Now that I am looking for it I can see a statement about VAT, but its a scroll down to the bottom of the page in tiny small print and its not visible at all if you are only looking at the Electricity Tariff.0
