Caution with CheapEnergyClub, wrong rates!

Just a word of warning, best to double checking it's all correct before ploughing ahead with the recommended default!

I was checking if my current dual energy fix was still good or worth changing. I'm with Co-op Energy/Octopus and I was surprised to see the search say OVO Energy would be £40 a year cheaper at £100 a month when I'm currently paying £90 a month and my account is in £390 in credit.
I done some digging and found that both tariffs were wrong. It had my Coop tariff higher than actual (in unit rates and standing charge for gas and electricity) and the suggested OVO tariff lower than actual (unit rates were correct but the standing charge was considerably lower than actual for gas and electricity).
Doing the maths myself with the actual rates, switching to OVO would cost me ~£70 a year more.

This is interesting.... I too have noticed an incorrect tarrif

My current one if this for Next Pledge Tracker 12m V3

    one Eon Next website

    Next Pledge Tracker 12m V3
    Electricity usage3,877kWh
    Electricity unit rate24.27p per kWh
    Electricity standing charge50.84p per day
    Gas usage7,980kWh
    Gas unit rate5.94p per kWh
    Gas standing charge31.43p per day

    On MSE Cheap Energy Club
    Next Pledge Tracker 12m V3

    Elec
Tariff: Next Pledge Tracker 12m V3 | End date: Not applicable
Early exit fees: help £25 (unless you’re 50 days from the end)
    Unit ratehelp22.157p All kWh
    Standing charge help49.916p per day

    GAS
Tariff: Next Pledge Tracker 12m V3 | End date: Not applicable
Early exit fees: help £25 (unless you’re 50 days from the end)
    Unit ratehelp5.184p All kWh
    Standing charge help31.011p per day

The calc they have at the top seems to be aligned to the rates they have registered.  So that is completely out with what Eon Next say.  I have checked my address details (HP16) too to make sure the post code is right.

So basically, it says I should save £150 if I switch to the tarrff I'm currently on!  Also it says that there is no end date - which is wrong as mine is coming to the end (10th Jan).

Any one else have this problem?  How do we alert MSE to this issue?

@Dobbibill / @victor2, excuse me for linking you into this thread this way - but can you advise as to how we ask MSE to fix this issue or at least alert them to it?

    Thanks

Hi @rodp_2, you could contact the cheap energy club on creditclub@moneysavingexpert.com.
The rates for E.on Next PLedge Tracker agree with Eon for my area, but it may have something to do with it being a variable tariff and/or the latest rates not being picked up correctly for yours.
Staff may not be around much over Christmas, so it might take them some time to look into it.

Is Next Pledge Tracker 12m v3 still offered to new customers?  I'm being offered Next Pledge Tracker 12m v7.

  • I also had issues with incorrect quotes on Cheapenergyclub and Unravelit. Spent ages doing proper calculations based on rates displayed. Picked best tariifs, went to Octopus to get a quote and it was different rates. Went to Ovo to get quote and it was different rates. So both comparison sites were wrong, complete waste of my time!

I went onto 'Eon Next Pledge Tracker 12m V3' on 10/01/2024.  Am switching over to 'Eon Next Fixed 18m v12' on 10/01/2025.  I was trying to switch earlier as it's cheaper but it looks like they won't switch me over to the new one until the previous one actually ends.  Sometimes I've been able to move immediately but maybe they've changed their policies.

Thanks Victor2, I'll send them an email.
