red_boots2 said:I have had more in the last 30 days than the previous 15yrs of using eBay.
2 for a Vintage collection only mirror, where both times after paying the buyer wanted to send a courier. One courier even showed up 3 days after I had cancelled as the buyer didn't bother to cancel the courier.
Even stranger I have had 4 on a phone case where each time after buying they've cancelled saying it won't fit the phone as they didn't read the description and/or title.
All of them had paid and asked to cancel afterwards.
After the run of these I only have 2 since which is annoying, but not as bad as 4 in 2 weeks.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. “ Sellers can't leave negative (or neutral) feedback for buyers because too many sellers were using the threat of negative retaliation to discourage less than positive feedback from buyers no matter how warranted it was.”
There were a few reasons. Some sellers left retaliatory feedback, even if they had a negative for justifiable reasons. In the earlier days of Ebay, feedback was quite important to buyers and a negative, for whatever reason put them off buying. I used to make the argument that there wasn't anywhere where sellers could leave feedback for buyers. I think I was right back then, now we have variations of consumer feedback with Uber and AirBnB, amongst others.

happens in about 1 in 200 salesmy guess is what happens is they impulse buy and then do another search and see the same item cheaper after they have bought minei just agree to refund and relistthere are some obvious mentally challenged people who ask for refunds as well ( i read feedback left for others and normally even second purchase was faulty ) and they are protected by ebay rules wheras sellers are not / i dont engage just refund / claim back sale from the taxman and move on .0

Has it always been that way? Speaking as a prolific buyer I think it’s unfair on the sellers if they get bad buyers and can’t really do anything about it.1 -

so in my own mind i put the refund as an expense for the taxman to pick up .albeit i then pay the taxman

You have already accounted for your expenses (ie 10% of takings fee / 20%vat / 36p per sale item fee /shop fee and extra listings /lost post & returns / stationary /postal cost / price paid per item /operating fee/vat / total cost /total profit) which I agree is valid. The £8 you have refunded includes these expenses plus your profit. You shouldn't put the refund in as an expense as well as you are then including all of your expenses again, which you have already accounted for, plus your lost profit which is not a valid expense for a business.

I too keep simple paper books (I was trained pre computer- I'm that old!) and use the cash accounting system. I have all income recorded, then all expenses separately which on a sale is the usual ebay fees and postage. If an item is lost I can claim from RM for the original item value, for SNAD claims I can't claim anything of course.
So if I refund on a SNAD claim I lose all the 'profit' element as that isn't an allowable expense at all. If I believe a claim to be false, I always pay return postage (which I can claim in my accounts) and insist item is returned- I get very few SNAD claims any more but very often there is nothing wrong with item so I can either appeal to ebay and they often pay me a goodwill payment, or I resell item. If the item is well and truly kaput and I packed it badly or sent the wrong item then at that point depending on cost I will either refund without a return (and not claim anything) or if I sent the wrong item, just get it back to resell and cancel the sale.
My real sticking point though is the fact you don't get the loss back- only reduce the tax payable on the amount. So if you refund a £20 item and somehow manage to remove that sale from the spreadsheet you are out of pocket for the £20 as all you have saved is tax and NI on the profit.

I’ve had 2 cancellations in about 10 days again, even though my holiday settings were off for about 7 days of that. One just before I turned my holiday settings on, and one just now.The latest one is wrapped packed carefully in a tamper proof bag and ready to go first thing tomorrow, which means the waste of the bag, which is irritating. I’m still continuing my policy of accepting the cancellation and blocking the buyer .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
