Thinking of leasing an EV

johnbhoy70 said:Thanks eventually found it. Yeah guy we spoke to today i think said one pre-reg forecourt today had depreciated down to approx 18/19k from 32k odd.
Even if we lose out slightly financially on a lease deal as opposed to residual value after 2 years when buying then we're not too fussed as it's a trial into the world of leasing and EV's.
I'd recommend going for the pre-reg - it'll cost you less, you can keep it later if you like it, don't need to worry about mileage charges and it'll be easier to get rid of if you don't like it.
With a lease, to get out of it you're essentially paying the full lease anyway, with a PCP/HP you're just going to lose the difference between what you paid and trade-in.

Just to be clear the pre-reg is never selling for that! He said to us OTR was low 30's something like that and it's value was now 18k odd. These aren't exact figs but definitely in the ball park. He said he shouldn't really be telling us and let's be honest I don't know if he was telling us the truth or not. They might offer a discount on it but I would imagine it's not going for that0

She's in a new role in NHS
There are various schemes for NHS staff that tend to offer larger discounts.
Some require jumping through the odd hoop or two, like signing up to the Blue Light Card scheme.
Others just require you to prove you work for them, like showing them your/her assignment number.
Some you have to take their finance deal, but you can settle up in the first month.
I've had quite a few cars on various different NHS schemes and I try and choose the ones that save me at around 20%.
A couple I have used are:
Renault via the Blue Light Card.
Fiat/Alfa/Jeep via their Privilege/Affinity schemes.
And
NHS Staff Discounts on New Cars | Great Car Deals & Discounts - Motor Source Group
Everyone in my office has had at least one car via Motorsource and someone is waiting for theirs as I write this.
Griffin Mill used to do something similar.
I believe MG have a scheme running at the moment as well but never used either.
There are also Salary Sacrifice schemes that various NHS trusts run.
They come with their own pros and cons but are generally fairly cheap.

Sorry, I thought you meant there was a pre-reg on the forecourt for that. I'm sure you can get similar deals even if it's 6-12 months old.

See what the numbers are like on a low miles 12 month old one, which you can aim to get for around half the OTR price. If you want it for two years it will have full manufacturer warranty while you own it, and nothing to spend on except the services.I wouldn't normally suggest PCP on a second hand car but run the numbers, then if you like it you can consider paying the balloon, or you can hand it back.It might not be much cheaper on PCP than a brand new one on PCP or lease, the finance companies get the new ones at a huge discount, so their actual depreciation is far less dramatic than it appears.I just bought a 2 year old EV for 33% of the new price, but I should really have looked harder and paid £1000-£1500 more for one with a lot less miles as I'm going to end up putting a set of tyres on it, that I wouldn't have had to buy if it had been low mileage, that will cost a fair chunk of that.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Just pre reg a car does not knock £12K off the price. & TBH. They have been selling them far cheaper earlier in the year.
Stellantis has been fiddling the car sale figures to get round the £15K fines for selling to many ICE compared to EV. This is starting to hit hard, as they need to shift these pre reg fast, or they are going to be left with them. As next year the % goes up again. So it will be even harder to do the same again.Life in the slow lane1 -

I’ll bet if you asked but didn’t like the colour there would be “further cars available” 😉1 -
If you are thinking of going into electric cars I suggest looking at another forum - SpeakEV.
Corsa-e specifically get a bit of a bashing particularly build quality.4 -
Thanks for all the replies folks. Think i'll go for it tomorrow and have looked at other options but for us it keeps coming back to leasing. We have run both our last cars into the ground. My Octavia is 11 yo now and the wife's Hyundai I10 died this week and the last few years garage bills have been tasty and probably influencing my decision. On average i would say we've been fairly unlucky. Hindsight and all that. I'm fully aware depending on the nature of the problems leasing could incur some of these costs too.
Regarding NHS- she is in a trust in Scotland and spoke to a colleague who told her that offers there weren't great but i'll get het to make a call or 2 anyway. She's also Blue Light Card so we'll look at that too.
The 2 year lease deals i'm looking at will either cost £6674 or £6818 depending on size of initial deposit. I'll probably just pay the mimimum deposit and take the hit of £144 and risk avoiding GAP insurance.
Had a quick shifty on Autotrader and there's 3 year old one local to us at £12.5k . I might take missus along tomorrow and see if we can get a test drive. As always better deals down south and we're in Scotland.
Googled SpeakEV and firs thread that came up was 'Corsa e -what's the catch??'
I suppose what it boils down to is we're hedging against depreciation. As i said earlier even if we're slightly out of pocket then so be it and mark it down as the cost of a trial run into the world of leasing and EV. We also keep savings handy for emergency funds . That's just us. Folk will disagree0 -

We did it last year - this year there is an earnings limit unless you are rural. Be warned it closes as soon as the money is used up so don't delay applying if you think you are eligible.1
