Vinted - is this odd?

I browse a number of categories on Vinted and have noticed that a few posters whoo have zero reviews have listed a range of items all at the same price.
E.g. one seller has 20 items all priced at £6.10, another with all priced at £7.89, another at £9.28.
Why would somebody price a BN Barbour jacket the same as a used Next one?

They seem to be a random mix of sizes too.
E.g. only shoes listed by one seller, ranging in sizes 3 to 10.
Only jackets/coats listed by another seller, ranging in sizes 8 to 24.

It seems odd to me.

If you think it's odd, just don't buy from them. It's possible people are using vinted like a business, getting clothes/shoes in and then selling them - which might expect the random mix of sizes.

Some people do use it as a clear out method - I bought some BNWT DM chelsea boots a few weeks ago, and the sellers other items were mainly children's toys.

At the moment Vinted is rife with scammers, I’ve never seen so many.

the usual explanation for those prices all the same is a piece of scamming software that lists on various accounts across different countries, so they use photos from other sellers, set a price in euros and it gets listed under different seller names in different Vinted platforms, and ours is an odd amount as it is converted to sterling.

Always be mindful of user names that look computer generated, just a string of numbers and letters.

if you do buy then usually you get an immediate response with a fake RM postage receipt with a message saying item has been sent.

Interestingly, I can’t see how the scammer achieves anything as on Vinted money isn’t released until item is received. However, looking at various threads it seems some people don’t see this as a scam and wait for their goods, then a few will forget to check their messages to report an issue, and money is released to selelr. However, this must be a very rare occurrence so scammers must need to set up hundreds of accounts to get any return back.

I don't intend to buy from any of these sellers.
Thanks for the info on the pricing, I suspected as much.
And you're right about user names.

I think Soolin is right about these sellers.

If they are operating as a business but pretending to be private sellers, I hope HMRC hunt them down for taxes.

I am a private seller on eBay and all my clothes are sized 12 - 14 and shoes 2 - 3.

This scenario in particular is a scam, so best to report as a scam rather than as a business trading illegally.

I don't intend to report this as a scam or a business trading illegally to anyone

I was sceptical about these sellers and remain so.

    They appear to have disappeared.
The items I was watching (suspiciously) in my favourite list have vanished.

    They're back.
Load of listings at the same odd--penny prices just listed in the last half hour.

Once someone realises they have been scammed and reports it to Vinted they are quick to remove the scammer from the site. Unfortunately they aren’t anywhere near as good as stopping them when they try and post things.

  • I just don't get this sudden surge of popularity with Vinted.  They've in particular captured the female 25-40 market.

It's full of scammers and it has an appalling customer service that is happy to flout UK consumer laws and even ignore you when you point out exactly which laws they are in breach of.

Caveat emptor.  Do not buy off this website!
