As the defendant,  you are witness number one,  compulsory , the court will order you to provide a WS, next year

Anyone else are witnesses 2 and 3 etc, assuming there are more than one witness

You are correct with the actions required,  listed in the 12 steps

I have my mandatory mediation appointment today. Going to decline paying anything to them as per the suggestions here.

Lets see how it goes? How was other people experience with mediation?. Any last minute pointers for the appointment are appreciated. :)

Advice is in the 12 steps in the defence template thread and in the newbies sticky thread in announcements,  have you read that advice   ?

Look at recent cases in the last 3 months,  check their feedback

Typical reports are a 5 minute call, offers are £0 , some low offers of £10 or £20 have been accepted,  the choice is yours,  but mediation is about a mutual offer and acceptance or rejection,  nothing to do with the case

The advice is usually offer £0 and politely end the call ASAP,  dont be intimidated by the mediator,  costs will NOT escalate

    Hi,
My hearing date is scheduled for 6th July 2025. But i received an email with an attached N279 letter from dcblegal on 13th June saying below.

    Dear my name,
We act for the Claimant in the above matter.

Our client has instructed us to discontinue Court proceedings and close our file. Therefore, please find enclosed the Claimant’s N279 Notice of Discontinuance for your records.

The attached has also been filed with the Court.

We will now proceed to close our file accordingly.

I didnot received any confirmation from the court yet. Is this enough to believe that they have withdrawn or this could be an eyewash?

Is there a way to independantly verify that the claim has been discontinued? On moneyclaim website, i dont see any update, and i am unable to contact the court?

Once it is transferred to your selected local court, MCOL plays no further part.  Only the claimant or their solicitors can tell you if they have discontinued by issuing a N279.  You could call the local court and ask.

Thanks, I've already counted it (thought I recognised the username) after a heads up from @Nellymoser on the actual disco thread itself on 26 June.  👍
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
