Virgin Points for trip

Have recently taken out a Virgin + CC for the 18k welcome bonus and free companion flight. Hoping to go to Vegas next September. Has anyone else done this and what’s easiest way to book points / cash / points and cash?
Should have 40/45k points within next couple of months and want to know is it better to book flights only or some sort of package?

45,000 points would give you a £247.50 discount on Virgin Holidays package (3,000 = £16.50)
best use point usually premium seats or upgrades (economy often worst use as taxes still apply and the actual 'fare' part you save is often low
Flyertalk in a good forum for all things points. There is a Virgin board and worth having a read through the threads there
There are a few good sites like Head for Points and The Points Guy...if you google 'spend Virgin miles' you should find their sites come up0 -
What class are you intending to fly in?Aqua1985 said:Have recently taken out a Virgin + CC for the 18k welcome bonus and free companion flight. Hoping to go to Vegas next September. Have done it with a companion voucher before, though before rule changes, but had a lot more points so we both flew upper class on points on flight only.0 -
Tbh probably just economy. Had a look and seems to be around 40k points which I should have. Am I right in saying I could use my free points for one ticket and my companion voucher for the other and just pay taxes on both of around £300/400 a person? TIADullGreyGuy said:
