As I understand it the claimant has to pay the trial fee, so unless I haer otherwise I assume it has. They have sent a letter of non-attendance informing me that they have requested that court decide the outcome of the claim in the claimants absence. WS and evidence exchanged yes.

So they sent a WS bundle to you in March and you sent yours to them (per para 6 of the Hearing Order)?

Best prep is re-read both bundles and write a crib sheet of headings to get you focussed and notes to which page (of either bundle) to take the Judge to in support of each point.

Bring a device (plus charger) where you can access both bundles quickly, or a whole printed file of everything in a ring binder with page dividers & notes that mean you can find pages fast.

If it's an in-person hearing, get there half an hour early to get through security then sign in with the Usher. Listen out for your name to be called. Do NOT agree to 'a chat in a side room' with the Claimant's rep beforehand. Polite "no".
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
