Boiler dilemma. Help a lady out please!

So I've moved into a house 2 years ago. The boiler is 9 years old....its been working just fine. An ideal logic plus combi.
I had a service Last week and he said it passed but there's a crack started on the sump with brown discolouration ( a sign it'll need replacing). And he couldn't access the heat exchanger , electrodes and burner because a screw was cross threaded. .he couldn't remove it.
I've contacted Ideal who offer a one off repair service of £345 or can pay over 6 months. I've called domestic and general who ( because they class the unaccessible area and sump issue a pre existing problem) quoted me £32.95 repair plan . I'm not insured on my home insurance so just wanted to check there's any other company I should check with please 🙏

I'd go for the one off repair personallyEx forum ambassador

If the heat exchanger needs replacing because of the cross threaded screw, a fix price repair by Ideal is going to be a pretty good deal. If they include the sump plus what ever else needs doing, you will be quids in. So another vote for Ideal.

The one-off doesn't sound like bad value.0

Is the 'sump' the condensate trap? And what 'exchanger' - the main or secondary, do you know?
If your GasSafe couldn't remove the parts required for access, what chance will anyone else have?
The part is only around £65, I understand, but can be a swine to remove and replace (according to Google results).
Without the damaged screw, tho', it should surely be a much less than a £345 job, but given the added complexity, and also that these fixed price repairs also replace other dodgy bits, it could be a good call this time.0 -
We had our cooker on D&G plan, and it worked out okay for us. Bear in mind if you pay them the £32 a month, you are covered for a year, not just the one off, and they usually say they will replace if can't be fixed. Think we had most of our cooker replaced over the 7 years we had it covered, but I think we just about broke even on it. Might be worth one years cover at least?0
