That implies some kind of non volatile memory - battery backup, EEPROM, super capacitor etc.

If a Casio watch battery can last 10+ years (where it also illuminates the display and sounds the alarms) it should be a doddle in a meter.0

I agree. But then my meter has been working for over 40 years!Show me a battery that can last that long!0

How many times do I need to respond - MY METER DOES NOT CONTAIN A BATTERY!.0

dosh37 said:How many times do I need to respond - MY METER DOES NOT CONTAIN A BATTERY!.On dear, we seem to be completely at cross purposes.Of course your meter doesn't have a battery — it doesn't need a clock so it doesn't need a battery ! It couldn't care less what the time of day is, it's slaved to your RTS unit and changes its active register accordingly. It just needs non-volatile storage for the kWh readings. The point I obviously failed to convey is that 'standalone' non-smart meters (i.e. without an RTS unit) can also offer E7. However they will need an internal clock that continues to function in the absence of mains power, whether that's in the back of the engineer's van or during a power outage.A battery life of ten years or more is no problem as cheap Casio watches prove. Are we on the same wavelength now?0

Hey @dosh37 - it might help you to know that at the top right of your posts you should see a little circle icon with dots in - if you click on that you will be able to edit your post to add further points if you think of them subsequently to the original post. Unless done immediately, courtesy dictates that you make clear what you have added - usually by using "ETA" = edited to add - then your additional text. It just saves making multiple posts which can get a bit cluttered and also mean that threads get longer and more unwieldy than they need to be.
