Only FTTC Available - help needed

Options
Village I live in only has FTTC available. (Airband did some houses then pulled out). My broadband contract has expired with Now so can swap.
Looking online every FTTC provider is going to provide the same speed. We are supposed to get 26mbps download minimum but at times drop to 6-8 and my son is a big gamer so low ping is important.
As FTTP is not an option and won’t be for years by the looks of it are we going to get same download and ping rate from all providers of FTTC?

    Yes, pretty much the case.

Is the drop to 6-8mb at times across wifi or at the router?

FTTC speeds are mostly determined by the length and quality of the physical line from your home to the green fibre cabinet in the street, hence all providers will offer the same speeds.
