Sky retention offers are rubbish!

Options
Been paying £135 for some time for TV (everything except kids, TNT Sports) and broadband. Contracts up in 2 weeks time.
1st call - your price goes up to £165 after contract expiry, I can give you £5 off. NO thanks
2nd call - your price goes up to £165 after contract expiry, I can give you £35 off. No thanks

Just gave notice for the lot...

Years ago I'm sure I went from £80/90 month to £45 really easily by calling retentions. These prices (for a GOLD VIP so their weekly emails tell me lol)  are unbelievable when a newbie can get what I have for £50/month.

  • At least they are offering a deal a little cheaper than your current payments.  Maybe they will come back with a better offer?

    Glad I don't watch television.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Maybe now is a good time to take a stock take of what you actually watch. There are so many channels on Sky, I doubt most people watch even a fraction of them, and those they do watch are on Freeview. Fibre broadband should cost around £25 a month (max £30), then you can get Sky Sports and Entertainment for around £40 a month from Now TV. Chuck Netflix on top for £11 and that comes to £76 a month. Do you need or want much more than that?

Similar situation, Im a platinum member and pay £110 per month for 500mb and sports with uhd . Have taken stock of what I watch and really is overkill. Thinking of going to the stream box for hopefully a lot less with similar bb speed. About to call this week so will update my experience .

Just been offered £101 for 300mps broadband, and full sky HD package, with Netflix and sports, but excluding kids.
Turned it down, out of contract next week, let’s see if they come back with better.

Just renewed TV package, Signature, Netflix, sport, cinema, HD at £75.
sacked them for broadband however, they wouldn’t come below £31, got Vodafone for £10 month less.

I've just had an unexpected email from Sky offering to extend my current discounts for another 12 months. (I was just waiting until 30 days before my contract ends  on 24 /11  to ring up and start the usual dance with them regarding future costs ) This does not involve signing a new contract nor a mimimum period.    Or I can sign a new 2 year contract for roughly double what I am currently paying.  Not a hard decision for me!

Make VERY sure that they are extending the discounts by the same amount as currently .Many people (including me) have had a "Good news" email of this nature - but when you look at the detail, the individual discounts have been reduced!

Thanks, yes I've checked.  The % discounts are the same but the price has increased a small amount as the monthly amounts for the products has increased (   by RPI )  since the initial contract was taken out .

That's unusual as Sky discounts typically work on absolute amounts, not percentages, which is why during the annual price increases your discount of a percentage of the price actually goes down.

eg, you currently get £4 off a £20 product (20%). The product goes up 10% to £22, your discount is still £5 but is now only a 18.18% discount off the product price
