It’s been a spendy day. Had to buy a battery pack because my phone was dying and I couldn’t find any of the 4 I have at home when I packed 🤦‍♀️
Needed my phone for navigation so €29 unplanned spending.

The Louvre was magnificent, well worth the €22 Brits now have to pay thanks to Brekshit. Mona Lisa was surrounded by hoards of people, but I waited patiently and now I’ve seen it. There were plenty of paintings I enjoyed more. The sculptures were wonderful. Four hours wasn’t enough to see everything, but my feet couldn’t take anymore. An excuse to return another day.

I’m off down to the bar for a glass of red 😁

  • The Mona Lisa was a big let down to me as I thought it was much bigger . Enjoy your trip , I like you love travelling but not quite as extensively as yourself . Enjoy the rest that Paris has to offer . Where in Germany are you going ? Following your diary with interest .

The Germany trip is to Berlin. I need to research what to see while I’m there. Hoping for a Christmas market, some art and a quirky museum.

Today has been about three Cs; Cellars, Champagne, and churches. Lots and lots of walking.

Spendy day due to an unplanned Champagne tour and tasting excursion. Educational and enthusiastically enjoyed.

    weather has been kind.

    Enjoy.

We love France. Not been to Paris though.

Thoroughly jealous of your Christmas trip to Germany. Would love to go to a proper German Christmas Market. It was the first time we visited Germany this year and we can't wait to go back next year now 😀

Enjoy the weather. Its grim back here in the UK today.

    Thanks RelievedSheff.

I’m going back to Paris today. I’ve been in Reims and Épernay for the past two days, Champagne tasting tours and general sightseeing. The tastings have been really good value. Three glasses at each tasting, I was expecting a thimble full!

I wised up and took savoury snacks to the second tasting, I’m an alcohol lightweight!

The food has been amazing. Thankfully I’m doing a lot of walking to compensate!

Think we'll have to try some of the champagne tasting next time we're in the Champagne region!  We've always given it a miss thinking it would be very expensive but I'm assuming not too bad.  What sort of price did you pay?

We travel to France quite regularly as we have a motorhome and quite honestly it's far cheaper than camping in the UK!

I have a magnificent memory of Epernay when we managed to get tickets for a private tour of the Pol Roger chateau and cellars for my 40th birthday. It was a small group of 12 (8 from my family). The tour ended in what could only be called a "salon" - with silk covered walls, seats and curtains. The "tasting" comprised of two magnums of White Label Pol Roger - the one favoured by Winston Churchill. We did buy plenty at the end! The other guests were from Canada and Australia.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Isn't it just. We were amazed how little we spent on this years European trip. A week on the Isle of Wight cost us almost as much as two weeks in Europe!!

Champagne Mercier was €30 (£25.02) for a talk, a tour around the cellars in a open carriage train through a vast network of underground tunnels, and 3 glasses of champagne (two white and one rose). The Tattinger tour was €40 (£33.35) for a walking tour around the cellars and three glasses of champagne.

We ordered a bottle of Verve Cliquet at their Champagne House cafe with lunch (did not do the tour) and that was €44 (between 3 of us). It was much cheaper per bottle at the Champagne house than at other restaurants. It was €80 in one restaurant 😱, so if there’s a particular Champagne that you want to try, I suggest having lunch at their Champagne house to try it.

Two tasting tours over the weekend was enough for me. Some friends went to two houses on one of the days, and had a tasting at a restaurant. Most couldn’t drink more than one glass at the Champagne house tour after their lunchtime tasting 😆

There is a Champagne-house website that lists lots of tours at different ‘houses’. They are all within staggering distance of each other 😄
