Ebay purchase

About 8 or 9 months ago I wanted a new stivk hoover as mine wasn't as good as it used to be. I couldn't afford a brand new one so looked on Ebay for the dyson sales. I found one which said it was less than a year or so. I bought it but it was clogged up with plaster dust etc from DIY . Although I complained to the buyer they wouldn't accept it back, but I bet they wished they had after the motor part on the main cleaning head burnt out. I contacted Dyson for a spare part and found that it was still under warranty. They couldn't supply the new part so offered me a brand new upgraded stick hoover instead. I went from this V7 costing me £200 to a new V11 worth almost £900 because they didnt check the warranty details before they got rid of it. They must have known how bad it was before selling it but thought they'd just get someone else to take the fall.
Moral of this story .... always check your warranty.

Well done to Dyson for good customer service but it’s not always quite a simple as you make out.
The terms of a warranty only apply to the person who bought the item unless the warranty says otherwise about it being transferable. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
It's quite rare for a warranty to be supplied on a second hand item, well done Dyson.
This warranty issue cropped up a lot during covid with the hot tubs that people wanted. When a supply hit a shop scalpers were buying them up and selling them on- and having had one myself bought properly through the retailer Lazyspa, I know how unreliable some models are. The warranty required the purchaser to send a copy of the purchase receipt, with names, dates and the serial number of the tub within a certain number of days of tpurchase together with the shop details. Luckily we did that as our tub ended up being replaced 3 times in 14 months under warranty before we gave up. others who bought via a third party on ebay or facebook weren't so lucky and if the seller wasn't interested - and 99% weren't even showing as a business, then that was it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. We bought a VAX vacuum cleaner from Amazon about 6 months ago. The battery stopped charging and was giving error messages. I contacted Amazon who basically said nothing to do with us, contact VAX. So I contacted VAX for a full refund and they said they can't do that if I had bought from a 3rd party (Amazon). I went back to Amazon and they made me send the VAX back and I got a full refund, including the £30 extended warranty we had paid for. All in all a very good service, but I can see how and why some people get caught out.I also had a bad experience with a new kitchen which didn't work to my favour. I bought the new kitchen from a retailer and they messed up my order, resulting in the white goods being 4 months late on delivery. I foolishly registered them all with the purchase date and not the delivery date, so when the fridge/freezer and dishwasher broke, they were 3 weeks out of warranty and I ended up having to pay for new ones.0

I do agree that some people don't bother and write it off. As a seller I'm always surprised at how little some people expect by way of customer service. That's good for me as I usually go out of my way to offer the best service possible. Repeat customers are my favourite!
