The only warning I would give is to be careful if you switched internally to Next Pledge from a fix with exit fees if you change supplier that you left early, and the fix would still be running now. In that event, it is possible that they would still impose the exit fees.

    Has this theory been tested?!?

I'm sure the regulator would have a field day with that.

Especially when you have a Welcome email for V5 that states no exit fees.

They would have to argue you are still bound under your original "exit fee" contract...hmmm.  (Eg V3  Dec23-Dec24)
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I don't think we have found anyone who's done it, no. But it's such an obvious and easy loophole to avoid exit fees that I doubt they haven't thought about it.

I don't know what the exact wording would be but it it's 'There is no penalty if you move to another E.On Next tariff but exit fees will be charged if you change supplier within twelve months' - then I'd say that leaves them free to charge the fees even if you're no longer on the tariff they relate to.

I don't know if they do this or not, but I'd think twice if I was in that situation - which actually I was until recently but I waited until the year was up before I made the move!

The (my) original V3 welcome email (Dec 23) states...

An exit fee of £25 per fuel will be applied if you change supplier before your tariff ends.

So the argument would be what's meant by "tariff ends".   Does it "end" when you move to another tariff with them (V5 in this case), or does the original period apply???

We need a willing volunteer to test this scenario.

Isn't there also the switching within 45 days (6 weeks) thing too?

Goes off to read some more...

I'll update next week when the £££ credit balance is firmly in my account 😉

    Well, now you do...me!

I was on PledgeV3 from 15th December 23, with £25 per fuel exit fees if I switched supplier.
I switched to PledgeV5 in May 24, with zero exit fees.
I've just switched away to Octopus, and had my full credit balance refunded by Eon, with no fees deducted.
I was outside the 45 day switching window too.

    So there you have it.

Changing from Eon to another supplier, was told that no exit fees payable if I change within 8 weeks of the end date of current fixed term ending.
End date was 28th Feb, New supplier taking over on 20th Feb. Didn't want to pay £100 for sake of 8 days but it's not applicable.

If you phone E.On Next up or email them, they will cancel the exit fees. Their system seems to be a bit rubbish when complying with the 49 day penalty free window.
