Yes I was wondering about that. I am not a good d
DIY but my daughter has a lady from Ukraine who.seems to be able to do many many things
Like a hole in the ceiling..Putting new silicone round shower and bath.
I suppose could ask her. I.have a few broken ornaments needing repairs.

I have a solid mahogany toilet seat too. My grandfather bought it and it is beautiful.
I gave it to a local furniture restoration guy and for a very reasonable price he did it really well.
Essentially it's taking the varnish off and revarnishing with a clear varnish. Using paint/varnish stripper won't hurt it. Wire wool will be a long job. It's the care with the varnish that is essential. Soft fine brush and good gloss varnish does the trick.
I made the mistake of using a matt varnish on a light coloured beech toilet seat. It protects the wood but matt isn't comfortable to sit on ;)

Don't do french polishing. That allows water to get into the finsih and should only be for tables where you take a lot of care with what's put on it.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

Didn't know about Guardsman ring remover.  What I actually have are like drip marks on the wood.  I have got the extra fine wire wool but not what I would need to use with it.  Thanks again for all your advice I do appreciate it

Just seen your comment about getting someone to sort it out for me.  I have a very good joiner kitchen fitter but who has done other things for me too.  I will ask him and see if he knows anyone.  At the end of the day it is worth spending a bit of money on it  Thanks so much Sue
