Imperial Bathroom Mahogany Toilet Seat

I have got an Imperial mahogany toilet seat. It has got water marks not on the seat but on the actual lid. To replace it costs £400 unbelievable so so expensive. Does anyone have any ideas of how I could treat it to remove the marks. Could it be sandpaper. I am sure that it is solid mahogany.
I would appreciate any information on this. It is Victorian in style and the bath panel is also mahogany and I bought a corner mahogany corner bathroom cabinet.
It is shaped rather than a standard toilet seat. Many thanks Sue

Someone has suggested I use brown paper shiny side up and use an iron with heat no steam. I think I will give it a try and see how it goes. I am also wondering if I could use sand paper on it ?? Any views0

They are using fine gauge wire wool in the video, I wouldn't use sandpaper.1

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I love that programme ! I will try and get some fine wire wool, Not sure where I will find this but I will give it a try. Its just such a lot of money for a toilet seat. The cost would have been included in the cost of the bathroom but I had no idea that the cost to replace/ It was an expensive bathroom. It is my ensuite bathroom but I don't like those few water marks and feel as though people would think it was dirty. I like to give my bedroom to some visitors. Or sometimes I will have say 4 visitors I have got 2 double room and 1 single and I will sleep there. I do appreciate the video showing how it is being done. Sue0

£400 is indeed a lot for just a toilet seat. Did a quick search for "mahogany toilet seat", and it turned up quite a lot of hits with prices starting at just £14 - The cheaper ones are MDF with a mahogany finish, so cheap and nasty.Genuine mahogany is a CITES listed species, so you won't get a new seat legally made from that wood. If you do find one, it is more likely to be Sapele. As for removing stains, I have heard oxalic acid can be effective on some types of stains. But the stuff is very toxic and not easily obtained (a few sources on ebay though). Might be worth having a chat with a local furniture restorer. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
I will ask around and thanks for the advice Sue0

Could a French polisher help? It's a specialised trade so dont know how much they would charge.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Have you tried a proprietary ring remover like Guardsman?1
