Shower window issue

We are planning a new bathroom - the room is smallish with a window in the way

What is the solution to prevent water from affecting the frame - it is UPVC but water on the inside is not a good idea !

You could install  a shower screen or curtain that partly covers the window or make curtains for the window using showerproof fabric. Alternatively live with the fact the windowsill will get wet but wipe it each time shower used.

    Swap loo and shower positions?

Mind, with no door to enter the room it should all stay dry ;)

Sorry - the door is opposite the basin - its a pocket door !
The loo has to stay where it is - the downpipe is directly behind it
    this is 1st floor

It's will get too wet and frames could leak water through the cavity - it has done in the past - we have a bath along that wall at the moment and do use a shower curtain - but prefer not to have to....

Please excuse this large picture. I cannot seem to make it any smaller on here.

I have always had a Shower Curtain along the window. You can see how it is attached below.

(The sewn-on "extension" added to the curtain at the top, is from when I had the bath removed and needed to make the curtain longer.)

Next door had a waterproof blind, but I was not so keen on that. I can regularly wash this curtain.

You would need to reduce the width of a shower curtain in your case.

(Just to add, when nobody is in the shower, the curtain just looks like a normal curtain when it is drawn back. Also I leave it fully open to dry for a little while after showering and I have an extractor fan above the shower, too.)

and do use a shower curtain - but prefer not to have to....

Can't really see an alternative there without
some swapping around. Window shouldn't get wet from the shower if a curtain is pulled right across it.

Something else to add. To stop the issue of drips getting down the back of the shower tray. I sewed 2 ribbons on the shower curtain... one on each end about Chest height.

One ribbon then hooks onto a hook on the left.... you can just see it in my picture.

The other ribbon hooks over the shower attachment thing on the other side of my shower.

So that keeps the shower hanging away from the back (window) wall while it is drying.

(As you can see, same problems you are thinking about.... this is what I came up with and it works just fine.)
  • I am disabled and will be using a shower seat in the shower
So don't know whether there will be enough room against the window for a curtain without it getting in the way.
I am aware that a curtain is only fractions of a mm thick.....

  • How much of the window by the shower? Is a small screen a possibility? https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/bath-screen-help.565292/#post-4888578

I recall an old apartment having a sliding screen on the window sill by the shower. Something like https://emeraldflyscreens.co.uk/sliding-window-screens/

I find if is not a problem, if the curtain is pulled across so it has no draping, while having the shower.

Just measured mine with the system above. When pulled straight, it is extending 2 inches into the shower.

The waterproof blind my neighbour used was more rigid and heavy than a shower-curtain and fell flat against the window-wall. Maybe that is better if you need the extra space. It is much more minimalist, so you might find that more convenient.

(It is nice having a window, but they are a bit of a pain to work around!)
