It looks rather like a birch seed. Have a look half way down this page. Do you have a birch tree in the garden? They blow about. Or a pet could bring it in on their coat.

  • Google birch seeds, can't quite see it properly but I think that's what your first one is

This one is harder to tell but it’s not screaming ‘flea’, ‘bedbug’ or ‘clothes/carpet moth’ at me.

  • Bug no 1….thankyou so very very much, that does indeed look identical to a birchseed from that link you just set. It was those little antennae on the top that got my mind wondering, Right onto bug no 2 in that case.! You’ve made an oldy very happy, at least i can rule that one out! Phew.

The pic in the link even mentions that birch seeds look like they have antennae!

The bugs I’ve mentioned in relation to the 2nd pic are the only ones that I’m really concerned about, apart from wood boring beetles. Everything else that comes into the house would really rather not be there.

  • So, the thing that started this was I had a ring of bites  in a semi circle on my arm. I mentioned it to the doctor and she said it could be scabies which is from prolonged contact from a person. I don’t think i have been near another person in about two months apart from the doctor and when i do , i don't touch them or anything . (That sounds odd, I apologise !). But scabies seemed unlikely as I am a lone soul really.
I do get bites on me though, and get a little itchy, there again I am out in the garden quite a bit and go walking in fields etc on occasion.

Also my house (its old and too big really) , does get the occasional woodlouse. Maybe 3 or 4 a week at certain times of year.

Anyway, I googled and came up with fleas and bed bugs. I examined my mattress and saw those birch seeds on the sheet so I thought it might be an exoskeleton. I looked closely at the mattress and saw tiny black things in the seams. They weren't moving or anything, but I deduced from google they maybe flea eggs . I had my bed removed yesterday through panic. I then went through my clothes and have boil washed everything. 15 loads. I am dreading my bill. I then used a smoke bomb in my bedroom.

So, I dont know what the conclusion of this little back story is, but i thought I would tell you. Sorry for the ‘borefest’ as they call it these days!

We are quite conscious of bugs because OH really reacts to bites. He was signed off work for a week once due to sand fly bites from a camping trip, that was an A&E trip.  Bites in a row do suggest a mozzie to me.

At least you have a very clean house now!

  • Here’s bug no 3… I’ve placed it on some wallpaper so it shows up.

If that is a proboscis it suggests a mosquito. They fly in and out. I like the windows open so if we have seen any, OH runs a plug in killer after the curtains are closed.
