Concerning your exsisting TV, if the sound is still working and problem with vision started after electrical storm could be something as simple as a fuse or lightening arrestor needs replaced.

Any mens sheds in your area that could give you guidance.

Done all the usual, disconnect from everything, leave for a couple of hours and then try?

Have done all the usual checks. Also tried a flashlight on the screen to see if there's any sign of a picture but nothing.
I think a fuse would be for overall power to the TV.
As there's sound, it could be a problem with the T-Con (timing controller) board or a failed LED. They're in series so one bad one affects them all.
If I can get to the T-Con, replacements are available for not too much money.

Symptoms do point towards a failure of the board (TCON) or power to it.
No signs of any burned out components so might take a chance on a used or new one at £5 - £15.

    EDIT:
Have been given a Samsung 32" TV, similar to the LG so new TV needed for now.
Don't like throwing stuff away if it can be fixed cheaply so may try and get to the LG's LED strips to check. Otherwise it's a case of replacing the boards in turn until it works.
