Lost Airline baggage and the Montreal convention.

Flew with KLM as a party of 4 and they lost our baggage for over 2 weeks. When we arrived at our destination is was still in the UK and when we got back after 4 days it then went to our holiday destination.   I believe I am entitled at the advice of the airline for 100 pounds per person per day to buy replacement clothes.   When I put in my claim  for 1600 pounds KLM only paid my 1100 and said that's it under the Montreal convention.

Researching this convention shows you are entitled to much more than that but KLM have closed my claim after paying me and said there will be no more money.  Despite I sent them itemised receipts to the penny.

Can anyone offer advice on what I should do next.

thanks

Jim

The actual amount of compensation under the Montreal Convention is 1600 Euros not pounds. That is the maximum but your bags were not lost, as you finally got them back they were delayed not lost.

generally airlines will reimburse purchased items on provision of receipts. Did you actually spend £1,600 on clothes/toiletries for 4 days and provide these receipts?

I understand that but you are getting compensation for having to buy clothing for 4 days (but Im staggered that you all had to spend 100 a day for each of the 4 days) but your bags were delayed not lost. You got them back, if they were lost you would still be without them,

It's worth mentioning the limit is actually1,288 SDR (special Drawing Rights) - which does translate to around 1600EUR or £1,331.75, but tends to move around a bit
