John Lewis Credit Card reducing interest free period for those who pay in full

John Lewis Credit Card (New Day Ltd) have changed the direct debit collection process for those who pay their bill in full every month.

My statement date historically was the 21st of the month with payment due and taken on the 5th of the following month.

Starting this month, the statement date has changed to the 26th with payment due on the 11th. However, the direct debit will still be taken on the 5th.

The official response is that the change has been made to allow anyone who pays in full to resolve any bounced direct debit issues before the due day without incurring any charges.

However, they are now giving a reduced number of working days notice (5 in my case) where the direct debit guarantee suggests 10 working days.

This looks more like an attempt to reduce the benefit for customers who pay in full each month, as those who pay less than the full balance are not affected.
