Printer recomendations?

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent printer between £50 - £100. One that either doesn't require ink or you can get ink easy and if you run out of black ink you don't need to buy a whole pack of all the colours. As I will mostly print in black only. Also one where you can buy compatible ink on eBay for much cheaper?

Also one with a scanner and I can connect my Samsung android smartphone with to print via WiFi or Bluetooth?

Something reliable and isn't getting jammed or has loads of issues.

I was looking at this one but some of the reviews say if you run out of black ink you have to buy all the colours to get just black and that it gets jammer alot and no good if you have loads to print out.

Any advice appreciated and any links even more appreciated thanks all

We've been using HP for over 15 years.  Very happy with the printer and their instant ink service.
We don't regularly do printing or scanning at home but we find it very useful to have this functionality foe the odd time it's needed.  It's never let us down.

If you will not be printing much get a laser printer.  The toner will last a long time. They are fine not being used much.  Toner is cheaper than ink.  You can get them with scanners.
  • Have a look at second hand ones. We have three printers because family members haven’t needed them and they all work. You can probably get one for free or a few pounds. That would pay for a few ink cartridges.

The Epson Ecotank is very reliable and the ink lasts over a year.

If only used for colour printing occasionally is there a possibility of clogging?
  • We've got a HP Photosmart 5520 that is quite a few years old now. We don't buy HP cartridges, can't remember where we got the last ones from, but it has a separate black and 3 colours. Prints from my android phone and tablet, no issues. I'm sure HP will have a newer model available, but it's fine for our occasional usage. Has a scanner, which will scan straight to phone as well.
  • I always purchase a printer based on the cost of the cartridges/toner. Lots of manufacturers are selling printers at dirt cheap prices so they make more money out the cartridges.

In three years of occasional use we’ve never had a clog. Any issues and a maintenance check solves it. Every now and then it will wake up and make a noise which I presume is a self maintenance procedure.
  • We have an ancient Canon inkjet all in one, and a much newer Brother mono laser all in one. Prior to the Brother, we had a small Canon laser, and replaced it with an equally small HP when it gave up, but unfortunately the HP was utterly rubbish. It depends what you're printing and how often. If you don't need colour, some of the smaller Brother lasers are on offer for under £100 at the moment. The toner lasts much longer than injet cartridges

We've never had clogging issues with our Canon, and that's rarely used. The only time I've had issues with an inkjet and clogging is using cheaper generic ink, which would block the jets
