DCA Ford Credit- Saying no record of it

Hi, we bought a Ford from a main dealer in 2013, part-ex’d our existing car, paid a deposit and the rest (we are certain) was financed through them. We also bought gap insurance too.
Have emailed Ford Credit with date & place of purchase, reg no and our full details but they came back saying they have no record of an agreement and can we provide them with an account number. We kept the paperwork until 2020 when we sold the car. We’ve asked the bank incase we had a loan through them but they only have records going back 6yrs and the loan would have ended Apr 2016. What can we do, if anything? We are 90% certain of a loan through them but can’t prove it without paperwork!

Which is to be expected given the timescale and data protection act requirements.

Based on your comments, you are not even sure you had credit for Ford Credit.

However, as it stands you do nothing.   The FCA report is not due until next year at the earliest, and they have already remarked that they are finding the Data Protection Act to be an issue.  So, it will no doubt be addressed.

Not much unless you have emails or scans etc - if they have archived the data by account number, they will need it to find the record.

Do keep in mind not everyone had DCA, not everyone who did was negatively affected, moreover, there is no decision yet if anyone would get any money and nothing will happen until late 2025 at the earliest - part of the delay is working out how to deal with people like you where there are no records

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Ok, thanks for this info.
I guess I was hoping the bank would have a record of a loan that only finished 8 years ago. Wouldn’t need any statements or documents, just a record of having had one. But that avenue has been exhausted, and we are still 95% sure we got our credit at the dealership. Will wait and see what comes out of the FCA report I guess..

You could send a DSAR to the bank (google the bank name and DSAR to find out where to send it) and they will send any records they still have - I am surprised they don't have records available if you're still with them, though equally it may simply show you were paying a monthly DD and not have any useful references on
