Xmas Food Shop Intentions

  • No other country in the world is like the UK.  Christmas starting in October.  I find it so distasteful I bet the supermarkets gleefully anticipant of billions of £ sales.  Indeed, it seems our economy depends on the Christmas spending.

Another who lives alone and all friends are busy with family so a fortnight or so it's just me.
I tend to indulge in the run up - Baileys, Chocs etc to get me through the commercial madness and then diet.

So food shopping. I'll be going to our new local butcher, the honey maker and farm for more a little quality over quantity and some stuff I've made already. It's easy and cheap to do and uses up stuff so you can start afresh after.
Then I become even more annoying and spend the quiet fortnight on a diet so looking splendid and relaxed afterwards as others are groaning :D

I used to go away. Wonderful Christmases in Italy and Spain which was low key, fun for the whole community based on the true reason for the season - and warm.
Best was in the Maldives (special discount) on a boat. They served up a massive English Christmas buffet in 30C of heat!
Sadly an accident has left me stuck at home for the forseeable but one day ........

Enjoy it whichever way you like.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

I dont buy anything extra as I dont celebrate. No family, just me. Staying with friends for a few days.
The only things I have bought already are sweets (which were on offer) for my lovely bin crews.
Dont put any decs up, dont buy prezzies (have a "no gifts" pact with everyone).
As the lovely duo Marian Keyes and Tara Flynn said in Now you're asking, "Expectations are disappointments under construction"
And a bag humbug to you all! 😁
Well done you Christmas isn’t compulsory.

Don't you buy anything to take to friends to contribute?

Posted my first Christmas present yesterday, but as it's going to Oz (can take anything up to 6 weeks!) I think I can be forgiven.

Quiet one for us, as always - just the two of us, plus feline.  For us, it can be a time of reflection thinking about the ones we would love to see at our table, but who are sadly no longer with us.

On a lighter note "is this a sprout thing?" is a running joke between us.  We both hate the wretched things, but for our first 7 Christmases together I cooked them because I assumed that he wanted them, and he ate them because I'd cooked them for him.  We now have broccoli instead.

I read an article a few years ago about Harrods selling Christmas decorations early.  Harrods gets visitors from all around the world and their Christmas decorations are very popular so they make them available in late summer/autumn.

I regularly shop at Sainsburys, and I love the build up to Christmas, also I have a lodger here so they may join in with the celebration, although he likes keeping himself to himself so maybe not! My shop will be done in sainsburys, and I will have sprouts as I like them steamed then fried with onion and chestnuts delicious...if you don't like sprouts it is because you are cooking them wrong!
