Gold in your portfolio?

1. You could always tape the coins on to the middle pages of different books and let them rest with all the other books on the shelves in one of your rooms. Just remember which books!
2. Tape a gold coin to the bottom of an empty coffee jar, then fill the jar with coffee & put it back on the kitchen self.

If you are worried about storing a high value of gold at home, another option is the Royal Mint's DigiGold service.
When I used it the storage fees were quite low and the buy/sell trading commissions were reasonable as well.
I still have a Britannia and Sovereign at home just for the novelty of holding some physical gold, but I wouldn't want to store large quantities. If insured it would presumably just push up the insurance premium. If uninsured then knowing my luck it would be stolen.0 -
Yes. Around 4% in a gold etf, GBPVenomspread3r said:I think this may be a bit of a 'Marmite' commodity but does anybody here have gold in their portfolio? If so is it gold tracker or a physical gold Etc or perhaps you own physical gold.

My gold sovereigns aren't in a safe. They are well hidden in a difficult to access location and only my wife and myself know that we have them.Venomspread3r said:😄 those posts!!
On a serious note are you never worried having the gold in your house?Ex Sg27 (long forgotten log in details)Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.0 -
In a proper end of the world, apocalypse type scenario, food will be more valuable than gold, and gold won't buy you much of anything.

I doubt anyone will break into a property for a few Sovs......they will have their eyes on plenty of other easy to filtch items that they can sell quickly. No opportunist burglar will even expect to find your gold other than your jewelry. You've probably more chance of having your car stolen than your gold.0

Just remember the first two rules of Gold Club. They are the same as the first two rules of Fight Club

That isn't what it's about though, it's more about the situation Argentina finds itself in. For the most part society still functions but owning gold has helped to insulate you from the extreme depreciation of the peso and preserved some of your wealth.Bravepants said:In a proper end of the world, apocalypse type scenario, food will be more valuable than gold, and gold won't buy you much of anything.2 -
The same could be achieved through investment into global tracker funds, and as a Brucie bonus that would also generate a yield.wmb194 said:

(Makes a mental note to flick through all the books in every charity shop, just in case someone has taped gold coins inside them then forgotten).
