Gold in your portfolio?

Options
I think this may be a bit of a 'Marmite' commodity but does anybody here have gold in their portfolio? If so is it gold tracker or a physical gold Etc or perhaps you own physical gold.

Anyone ?

  • I've got a Sovereign and a Britannia for the novelty. The Sovereign only cost me about £88 nearly twenty years ago. Wish I'd bought more!
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

I've got some Sovereigns bought over the past 25 years, represents less than 1% of my total.
  • That's really cool - I've not got any physical gold Just an Etf but thinking of getting a little bit of physical gold

A very Marmite topic. For me, yes, a few physical ounces, forming <2%. My view is it's not a bad thing to have but only if a) you already have substantial investments (whereas many seem to look at it for their first investment) and b) if you can afford to buy a reasonable amount each time e.g. 1oz rather than small fractions or overpriced novelties.

I buy Mrs RC a sovereign every year. I figure that when the revolution comes, she can sew them into my collar and we can escape over the mountains with the children.

We were chatting about escaping from the zombie apocalypse, the rise of the machines or being thrown into Russian/Chinese camps, a strange time when a small portable store of wealth might be needed. You can get quite a stash in to the prison pocket if needs must.

Can't really negotiate a bribe at the border and escape with the etf.

Yes that makes sense once you have your house in order - a few ounces seems a decent amount - the last time I checked which was quite a while ago 1oz was around the £2k mark

Id always be a little nervous having that In my house.
