Removal of LPG tank at purchased property

Hello,
We recently purchased a property that has an LPG tank that we do not use. The LPG supplier is putting pressure on us to enter into a contract with them although we said that we want them to remove the tank from our property. They was to charge us £1000 to remove it, although we do not have a contract with them and have never asked for their services or paid them anything.
Has anyone managed to get the LPG supplier to remove their tank without charging? Any advice would be great, thanks!
